The Position: 

The Field Engineer reports to the Project Manager and performs engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing construction of tunnel, shafts, and underground systems.

The position holds a wide variety of responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning the work based on the reports, drawings, geological data.
  • Record, analyze and report construction activities.
  • Estimating cost, equipment and labor.
  • Basic engineering calculations
  • Perform basic geotechnical and structural analysis.
  • Develop a variety of CAD drawings for different aspects of the work.
  • Perform hands on activities in the job site or in the tunnel.
  • Perform quality control related activities including document control, survey, muck sampling, etc.
  • Maintaining and assisting in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, and data networks.

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mining, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • This project is a multi-shift operation therefore flexibility to work second shift and some Saturdays as needed to support the project is required.
  • Ability to pass the O’Hare Airport Security Background Check process is required.
  • Previous construction internship experience is preferred.
  • Strong technical report writing and editing skills.
  • Proficient computer skills. HCSS Heavy Job experience is a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities. Self-motivated, flexible, and responsive.
  • Demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships and work collaboratively with Project Team, Owner, and Subcontractors. Strong sense of customer service and follow through.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, analyzing data and developing resourceful solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry 20-30 lbs and work in a confined space environment.
